What The CCEG Does For You | Why We Do It
| 2005 News The complexity of all the
rules and regulations imposed on employers is overwhelming.
Companies are forced to do things that may be well beyond their
capability, leaving them with three options:
- Companies can choose to ignore things.
- Companies can hire professional staff.
- Companies can participate in the CCEG.
Ignoring things just sets a company up for fines and penalties
while hiring professional staff is very expensive. Participating in
the CCEG is the most cost effective solution. We have the
specialists on staff, the manuals and handbooks, the policies and
procedures… virtually everything a company needs in one place.
That old saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”
really makes sense. The CCEG makes sure a company doesn’t get
trapped in situations that are easily preventable. The following are
just a few “ounces of prevention”:
• The CCEG makes sure
companies have a harassment policy and that it has been explained
and documented to your employees.
• The CCEG makes sure
workers’ compensation contribution caps for corporate officers and
construction employees are calculated correctly.
• The CCEG makes sure
workers’ compensation classifications are correct.
• The CCEG makes sure a
potential new employee signs an authorization to release information
so that companies can legally check credit, employment history,
education or other background information before they are hired.
• The CCEG makes sure time
cards are signed, so that hours worked can be authenticated and
verified.
• The CCEG makes sure that
company sponsorship of sports teams is done correctly, to prevent
workers’ compensation claims from participants on the team.
The CCEG takes a proactive
approach. Our business is to make sure our participants are in
compliance with government mandated rules and regulations; that
wages, payroll taxes, union contributions and deductions, workers’
compensation and unemployment compensation are calculated and paid
accurately; that the services provided by the CCEG are
cost effective.
Just exactly do we mean by COMPLIANCE? As illustrated by
the chart in Section 1, the government is constantly enacting rules
that place additional responsibilities on companies. Things like
COBRA, TEFRA, FMLA and ERISA, just to name a few, are complex
regulations. Employers are required to implement each and every one
of them. Most large companies have lawyers and well trained human
resource professionals to help them. Most small companies rarely
know they exist, let alone have the staff capable implementing them.
The CCEG is akin to a large company. We have a staff of highly
qualified human resource professionals who stay current on new rules
and regulations. Any changes are implemented in our Human Resource
Policies and Procedures Manual, Employee Handbook and, when
necessary, conduct fully documented on-site presentations for
participants employees. The CCEG’s policies and procedures are
provided in hard copy and on CD-ROM. Our Human Resource
professionals are a phone call away.
Now, about ACCURACY. Cash always earns hard and spends
easy and, with shrinking profit margins, every dollar is important.
Each time there’s a change in payroll taxes, wage rates, workers’
compensation or unemployment compensation, staff needs to be
notified and computer software must be updated. Virtually every
employee record has to be updated to reflect changes. Any errors are
the companies responsibility and typically result in penalties and
interest.
The CCEG maintains a proprietary, state of the art software
application capable of handling not only the unique employment,
payroll and compliance requirements of union contractors but
traditional companies as well. The user friendly design includes
complete and correct calculation and
reporting of payroll, payroll taxes, union benefits, training and
certification records, work and accident history, as well as full
compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
Finally, participation in the CCEG is COST EFFECTIVE.
That means wages are paid correctly; payroll taxes are calculated
and paid correctly; workers’ compensation classifications are
correct; workers’ compensation contributions do not exceed
contribution caps; union contributions and deductions are calculated
and paid correctly.
The primary objective of the CCEG is to self-insure workers’
compensation. Not only is it cost effective, but it gives our
participants level of control that does not exist within the Ohio
Bureau of Workers’ Compensation system. With self-insurance premiums
are not sent to Columbus, contributions are maintained in a local
claim account with dozens of other participants. The CCEG’s
administration and claim people are in place to protect companies as
well as the injured worker. Proper diagnosis, treatment and
rehabilitation are as important as the ability to investigate claims
for fraud and abuse. Isn’t this what companies are really looking
for?
The CCEG’s safety and training policies and procedures are
critical to overall job performance and to workers’ compensation
cost. The CCEG has the ability to track training and licenses for
all companies and employees. We make sure a worker has the proper
training and licenses you require.
The CCEG is here to keep our participants in compliance, cost
effective and protected to the greatest extent possible. Controlling
costs and maximizing profits is really what it’s all about!
